Spring Hill is in Williamson County in central Tennessee, about 15 miles south of Franklin, 15 miles north of Columbia, and 35 miles south of Nashville. It’s a great day trip option from any of those destinations, or from nearby cities like Huntsville, Alabama, or Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Spring Hill Day Trip Activities
With a mix of historic sites, shops, and some really tasty eateries, Spring Hill is a well-rounded town. You could easily spend a full afternoon exploring, or tag on brunch and boutique browsing on your way to local hot spots like Franklin, Arrington Vineyards, or FirstBank Amphitheater.
Eat at Brunch Collective
Our first stop in Spring Hill had to be for brunch, obviously. Brunch Collective has the perfect girly vibes – it’s in this cute old house with pink umbrellas and tables outside and flowers and cozy seating areas inside. It’s also super family friendly, especially outdoors where there’s a big lawn and a swing.
The food was so good, too. My friend and I each ordered flavored lemonades that came in giant Ball jar glasses and I had the breakfast burrito bowl with some of the best bacon I’ve ever tasted (thick cut, perfect texture, subtle sweet flavor…mmm). This is a must try for breakfast or lunch and totally worth the drive from Franklin, Nashville, or Huntsville!
Stroll Spring Hill Antique Mall
Located in an old school gym from the 1950s, Spring Hill Antique Mall is well organized with tons of interesting booths to look at. Whether or not you’re in the market for particular antiques, you’ll most likely stumble upon something fun to buy. They also had some cute local pride decor, pictures, and accessories for Williamson County, Franklin, and other nearby towns that would make great souvenirs!
Grab Greenery at Hidden Seed Plant Shop
This is the perfect summer stop on a day trip to Spring Hill (and let’s be real, summer weather lasts for half of the year in the South). Hidden Seed Plant Shop is a small and darling store packed with greenery and a whole selection of “easy care” options, perfect for inadvertent plant killers like me. Outside, the lush lawn has covered picnic tables where you can cool off with a shaved ice from Beach Co. Chill, served out of a cute, retro-looking camper food truck.
Sample at Early’s Honey Stand
Our next shopping stop in town was at the Early’s Honey Stand plaza, where a collection of stores selling records, cigars, and instruments add to the vintage vibe (a few of them are listed below). Early’s Honey Stand has been around for 100 years, and sells an assortment of honeys, including locally harvested and specialty types that you can sample before buying.
The gourmet grocery store also has other consumables and giftable food items like jams, sauces, nuts, and candies. They have a fun little “build a basket” station, where you can pick out your own container and customize which items to include. I picked up a couple of different jars to take home, including the rare and delicious Tupelo Honey.
Have a Drink at Cigar Station
In the same plaza as Early’s, Cigar Station is a little smoke shop and lounge in a retro-looking gas station with red fuel pumps in front. Even if you aren’t into cigars, you can pop in to hang out and grab a beer from the fridge or rotating draft taps that serve local brews.
Take a Lesson at Boomer’s Music
We weren’t sure what Boomer’s Music was when we walked in, but we were quickly greeted and given an overview by the owner (and drummer) Rob “Boomer.” The shop sells guitars, drums, amps, and other musician necessities, but you can also sign up for drum and beginner guitar lessons. If you’re visiting central Tennessee for the music scene, this would be a really fun way to immerse yourself and try something new!
Browse Rock-a-Roll Records
Next door to Cigar Station, Rock-a-Roll Records carries a pretty big music selection and is fun to look around. In addition to vinyl, they have CDs, cassette tapes, band t-shirts, and some memorabilia. You can also bring stuff in to sell and trade. This stop had me making plans to buy a record player, because I wanted to grab so many vinyls.
Shop at Birdy Grace Boutique
Birdy Grace Boutique was probably our favorite girly thing to do in Spring Hill. Owned by a mom and daughter duo, the shop’s selection includes feminine apparel and accessories in fun colors and styles. We grabbed coordinating rompers to wear for our afternoon at nearby Arrington Vineyards.
Fuel Up at the Fainting Goat
The Fainting Goat is the perfect spot to caffeinate after a couple of hours of exploring Spring Hill. The coffee shop has fun signature and seasonal drink concoctions like the Nacho Libre Latte (spicy Mexican chocolate and cinnamon) and the Moira Rose Iced Latte (cardamon and rose).
There is plenty of comfy seating in the art-adorned interior, but the outdoor area with swinging benches and picnic tables was my favorite spot. Fainting Goat has a location in Franklin, too. They also sell super cute fainting goat gear inside.
Grab Drinks or Dinner
We didn’t have time for dinner in Spring Hill, but I noticed and saved a couple of places that I want to stop at next time, and you may get a chance to check them out first! Reunion Wine & Cocktail Bar looks fun for cocktails and charcuterie, Tacos El Patron in the Early’s Honey plaza has fantastic reviews and a big menu, and The Spot Burgers and Beer is a popular pub grub hang out.
Things To Do Near Spring Hill
With so many incredible live music venues and other fun towns around Spring Hill, it’s easy to add in some nearby activities to stretch out your day.
See a Concert at First Bank Amphitheater
First Bank Amphitheater is one of the coolest concert venues I’ve been to, and it’s only about 20 minutes from Spring Hill in Thompson’s Station. It’s located in the old Graystone Quarry, so the stage and seating is set against the rock walls and the entire venue is surrounded by natural landscapes.
We saw a music fest here on the evening of our day trip to Spring Hill, so we had a few hours to scope out the venue and try different food and drink vendors. Concerts hit the stage from spring through early fall, and you can check the lineup here. I recommend bringing an empty, reusable bottle (which is allowed) to fill up and stay hydrated from the water station, especially during the hot summer months!
Sip Wine Slushies at Arrington Vineyards
About 30 minutes from Spring Hill, Arrington Vineyards would also be fun to add on to a day trip. The venue offers wine tasting experiences, flights, and slushies in summer, but it’s also a beautiful spot to hang out for a picnic and live music.
Fridays between May and October bring food trucks and live tunes to the vineyard, and on Saturdays and Sundays, you can catch bluegrass and jazz concerts on the outdoor stage. Snacks like gourmet cheese and olives are available from the store, or you can pre-order picnics to enjoy on the grounds.
